one of Telly's bosom friends.
TELLY AND LAUGHTER
I will not wax sentimental
about lost days and ended friendships
I will salute what was
and let you leave our presence
So you will always be present.
From you I learned
to appreciate the simplest things
I recall one hot typical Manila afternoon
When you came to my house
so you can help me study for our final exams
I complained about the heat
And you said you should be thankful you have air conditioning!
From you I learned
to cherish the simplest joy
I recall in high school
When we planned a surprise birthday party for you
By inviting your "secret crush" from San Beda
Who knelt before you and sang the Edgar Mortiz hit "My pledge of love cannot be broken..."
You could not stop giggling
From you I learned
to appreciate learning
I recall the year you visited New York
We met in a subway in Queens
And I asked you what you wanted to see
The Empire State Building? The Statue of Liberty?
You said you wanted to see Wall Street
And watch the stock market rise and fall
From you I learned
to appreciate life
I recall the day I heard about your health struggles
How inspite of everything you were always smiling
How you were taking laugh yoga
And I "heard" your laughter again
Now dearest friend you will laugh eternal
And you will need nothing but your soul
To laugh for the joy of having lived
And now for having life eternal!
Paalam kaibigang matalik!
